This Jame was erected by Amar-bin-al-Aas in 21 AH. It is the first masjid established
in the african continent and the oldest one of Egypts "city of Minarets".
Aimmat Fatemiyeen have conducted namaaz in this Jame especially the Saalaat-al-Jumaah.
In the peaceful era of Imam-al-Aziz(sa) a fountain and wooden ceiling was constructed
for it.
In 403 AH Imam Hakim(sa) renovated the Jame and made extensions in its dimensions.
It was decorated and illuminated with silver lamps. Gifts of al Quran were presented
to the Jame on the behalf of Imam. Imam Mustansir(sa) renovated the mehraab of the
Jame and issued orders to Moulana Badr-al-Jamali to reconstruct its weakened ceiling.
