This jame was built by Ahmed bin Tulun in 270 AH and is recognized by his name.
In 470 AH, Moulana Badr-al-Jamali, with the prior consent of Imam Mustansir(sa),
renovated this Jame. This fact is mentioned on a stone inscription in kufic script
near the entrance.
The Jame also contains a beautiful mehraab that was engraved on one of its broad
pillars with Imam's consent by Afzal, the son of Moulana Badr-al-Jamali, in 487
AH. This mehraab is prominently known as "al-Mehraab-al-Mustanseri".
